A luscious, bold wine with rich and intoxicating aromas of mocha, leather and toffee candy. The palate is filled with brooding black fruits, plush tannins and juicy blackberry pie with a finish of cocoa and baking spice.

Malbec from the Columbia Valley has been steadily gaining attention from consumers and judges alike. Our stunning and distinct Malbec matured in the barrel for 18 months to a beautiful, bold and sensuous wine. Complex notes of mocha, blueberry and toffee candy are intoxicating on the nose and followed by a juicy palate of blackberry pie, cocoa and plum preserves flavors. Our Echo Vineyard Malbec is an evocative wine – images of great Victorian libraries and overstuffed leather come to mind when sipping it. With a pH of 3.55 and a TA of 4.5 our Malbec is a strong food wine in addition to sipping alone. One of our favorite simple-yet-delicious pairings is with Bacon Wrapped Dates stuffed with Blue Cheese and a recipe card is provided with every purchase.

The 2014 Malbec came from the Echo (Firethorn) Vineyard in Echo, Oregon where Bordeaux varietals are right at home in the arid, sloped climate and gravelly soil. Owned and operated by Jay and Donna Bales, Echo Vineyard is an extremely interesting site. At the harvest season it is extraordinarily dry and water is pumped up from the Umatilla River Aquifer for deficit drip irrigation. If you stamp your foot you will have dust up to your shoulders so it is best to just shuffle around. This kind of water control can guide us to optimal picking and we try hard to pick the Malbec a touch early to maintain acidity once we are sure we’ve achieved our target flavor profile. The 2014 fruit came in even later than the Barbera on October 28th. We aged it for 18 months in neutral barrels and bottled only 299 cases in May 2015. We strongly believe that Malbec will become a major subspecialty of the Columbia Gorge corridor from Hood River to Walla Walla. We have had native Argentinians taste this wine and they have favorably compared it to their own best efforts. New – We’re very excited to have added two more highly regarded Malbec vineyards! Hattrup Farms/Elephant Mountain Vineyards in the southeast corridor of the Yakima Valley managed by Andrew Schultz and McKinley Springs Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA managed by Justin McKinley.
